The Story
KC’s Pub is a well-dressed sports bar located in Stroudsburg, PA. Over the years, it has served as not only a place of social gathering, but as a hotel as well. This case was especially exciting to CLPS because our fellow investigator, Kathy, spent a lot of time in the building when she was growing up. As a child, her grandfather was a bartender who lived in one of the apartments upstairs. Kathy would sleep over at the hotel and help her grandfather clean in the morning. The pub’s current owner, Kat, her employees, and the customers alike were all convinced that something paranormal was going on within the wall.
The ClaimsBased on personal interviews, CLPS learned that there were many claims of paranormal activity. Ice shovels had been thrown at a cleaning lady, cups had been thrown at bartenders, a baseball bat had been thrown on one occasion, and a bar chair was thrown across the room. Kat’s son told us about a few personal experiences he had while in the building. One night after closing the bar, he decided to spend the night upstairs. Just as he was falling asleep in the third floor bedroom, he said that he felt the building shake violently for a brief moment. He also claimed to witness a female apparition walk into the bathroom in the bar area. Aside from the multitude of claims, one well-known employee said that he has heard someone speaking to him in the second floor bathroom. This event was said to happen any time he was washing his hands. CLPS eagerly absorbed the detailed reports and anxiously accepted the case.

The InvestigationOn the night of June 22, 2010, Kathy, Lisa, Olivia, Ed, and Joe arrived at the pub to conduct the investigation. We were accompanied by the owner, Kat, that evening. We meditated on where our equipment would best serve our cause and then began our routine set up. Three infrared cameras were placed in the awkwardly shaped bar area in order to cover all the claims of activity: chairs, cups, a baseball bat, and shovels all moving, and the apparition. Our fourth infrared camera was placed on the seconded floor to monitor the entire level. An EVP recorder was placed in the second floor bathroom, where someone said they heard speaking, and another was placed next to the infrared camera on the second floor. Last, but not least, we placed the nightshot camera on the third floor facing a cubby door that was said to open on its own. Two teams were set up and ready to go. Kathy and Olivia, accompanied by Kat, compromised team one, while Ed, Joe, and Lisa made up team two. Initial sweeps were made with both thermo meters and EMF detectors. While all seemed to be normal, it was interesting to see that the bed on the third floor was sitting on a very high EMF field. A full night of investigating rendered no experiences other than a flashlight that turned on itself a few times. While ghost-like activity seemed dormant, CLPS was confident that they had figured out a few alternatives to some of the claims of activity.

The Debriefing
Upon reviewing evidence, we were happy to see that we came across a few strange things. Aside from a few possible EVPs, we documented our flashlight turning on on numerous occasions when Joe had walked a significant distance away. Overall, the investigation was thorough and we were able to come up with a few alternative theories: The noise in the bathroom could have been a mix of water and pipe noise. The shovel on the ice machine in the bar could easily fall off and slide as a result of vibrations. The apparition had to be chalked up to car light contamination. While it was clear some things were the result of human contamination, a few pieces of evidence left us believing that something could be going on at KC’s Pub; but, to what degree, we can't be sure. For a better understanding, further investigations will be necessary. Until then, we are pleased to say that KC’s Pub is a “must re-visit” place and we are happy to include Kat as another friend of CLPS!
